Japan-ROK Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talks

On January 13, for approximately 15 minutes commencing at 0:15 p.m. (Japan time), Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, spoke over the phone with H.E. Dr. Park Jin, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and exchanged New Year’s greetings, during his stay in Washington DC, U.S.
- The ministers shared once again the recognition that North Korea’s provocations are grave and imminent threat to the regional security, and a clear and serious challenge to the international community. The ministers reaffirmed that they will continue to work closely together bilaterally and trilaterally among Japan, the ROK and the U.S.
- Minister Hayashi welcomed the ROK Government’s announcement of the full text of “Strategy for a Free, Peaceful, and Prosperous Indo-Pacific Region” amid the increasingly severe security environment in the region.
- Regarding the issue of former civilian workers from the Korean Peninsula, the ministers concurred on continuing close communication between the diplomatic authorities to resolve this issue, restore sound Japan-ROK relations, and further advance the bilateral relationship.
