Messages of Condolences from Prime Minister Abe and Foreign Minister Kishida to the President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan Regarding the Earthquake in Taiwan

1 Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister, sent the following message of condolence to Mr. Ma Ying-jeou, President of Taiwan, regarding the magnitude 6.4 earthquake the epicenter of which was Kaohsiung City in southern Taiwan on the morning of February 6 (3:57 a.m. local time).
I am deeply saddened to learn of the major earthquake that recently struck southern Taiwan, causing substantial damage.
I offer my sincere prayers for those who lost their lives, and extend my heartfelt condolences to those affected.
Japan stands ready to provide any necessary assistance to Taiwan at this difficult time.
2 In addition, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, sent a similar message to Mr. David Yung-Lo Lin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan.
