On the morning of January 24, Ms. IKUINA Akiko, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan visited the Embassy of Mongolia in Tokyo and signed a Condolence Book on the occasion of the passing of H.E. Dr. Punsalmaa Ochirbat, the First President of Mongolia on January 17, 2025, and held informal talks with H.E. Mr. Banzragch Bayarsaikhan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Japan.

The First President P. Ochirbat was born on January 23, 1942. During his presidency from 1990 to 1997, he led Mongolia's development as a new nation after steering the country toward democracy and a market economy in 1990. He thereby established the foundation for close cooperation between Japan and Mongolia, which have now become “special strategic partners.” He passed away on January 17, 2025 at the age of 83.
