Courtesy Call on H.E. Mr. Sandag BYAMBATSOGT, Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia by Foreign Minister MOTEGI

On September 3, commencing at 3:00 p.m. local time (4:00 p.m. Japan time) for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Sandag BYAMBATSOGT, Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament)
- Both sides exchanged views extensively on cooperation in bilateral relations and international arena, and confirmed that they would continue to strengthen cooperation as the “Special Strategic Partners for Peace and Prosperity.” Minister Motegi stated that Japan, as the most important “Third Neighbor” of Mongolia, would strongly support strengthening its freedom to decide for itself and resilience under the updated “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP),” based on the principles of the Joint Statement that the Leaders signed in 2022. In response, Chairman Byambatsogt expressed that he would like to further materialize cooperation with Japan as Mongolia’s closest “Third Neighbor”, going forward.
- Both sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation including the Japan-Mongolia Government and Business Sector Joint Committee and expanding trade, toward the development of bilateral economic exchanges. In this context, Chairman Byambatsogt welcomed that the two governments substantially agreed regarding expansion of Chinggis Khaan International Airport, which is key to improve air connectivity, utilizing yen loans, and both sides concurred on advancing the process toward the implementation of the expansion.
