AIDS

The worldwide spread of AIDS is not only a keen problem for Japanese and American citizens, but also a serious global issue that must be addressed in a coordinated fashion by all humankind. Such efforts are yet another way to help countries attain sustainable economic development.

Japan and the United States are closely coordinating their assistance to fight this serious problem. For example, we perform joint surveys, implement assistance projects, and conduct personnel exchange programs.

One specific example of joint support given to fight AIDS is our assistance for the Noguchi Memorial Medical Research Institute in Ghana: Japan is providing technical assistance for experiments to develop advanced HIV diagnostic procedures, while the U.S. is providing funding for research purposes.
