Assistance for Women in Developing Countries

Japan and the United States both recognize that the participation of women in the development process is one of the keys to achieving sustainable development in developing countries. Similarly, supporting improvements in the economic and social circumstances of women is regarded as a key development strategy.

In accordance with these basic principles, the two countries have been working together on Women in Development (WID) -- in particular striving to improve women's education and providing finance and other assistance to female microenterprise owners in developing countries.

Teaching equipment and materials have been provided to Guatemala for use in girls' education.
