Message from Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi to
Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov concerning
the Armed Attack on Law-Enforcement bodies in the Republic of Ingushetia of the Russian Federation

June 23, 2004

On June 23, 2004, Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi conveyed the following message to Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov concerning the armed attack on law-enforcement bodies in the Russian Republic of Ingushetia.

• Foreign Minister Kawaguchi expressed her condolences to the victims and their bereaved families of the attack that occurred in the middle of the night of June 21, 2004. In addition, Foreign Minister Kawaguchi offered her prayers for the swift recovery of those injured in the attack. Foreign Minister Kawaguchi indicated her strong outrage and emphasized that such criminal acts can in no way be tolerated.
• As it has been repeatedly stated, the fight against terrorism is a common challenge that the international community must under take together, and Foreign Minister Kawaguchi indicated that she would continue to cooperate with Foreign Minister Lavrov on this matter.
