Courtesy Call on Minister for Foreign Affairs IWAYA from Prof. Takemi, member of the House of Councillors, and HIV/AIDS Experts

On June 12, from 9:15 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Prof. Takemi Keizo, member of the House of Councillors, and HIV/AIDS experts who was visiting Japan for the 10th Asia Pacific AIDS and Co-Infections Conference (APACC). The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya received a submission titled “Request for Japan’s Continued Contribution and Enhanced Support for International HIV/AIDS Countermeasures” from the group. He expressed his respect for the experts’ proactive engagements in promoting HIV/AIDS countermeasures. Prof. Takemi and the HIV/AIDS experts stated their expectations that the Japanese government would continue to play a leading role in global health and HIV/AIDS countermeasures, including cooperation with multi-stakeholders such as international organizations.
  2. Minister Iwaya stated that while the current situation of global issues, including global health, is more severe than ever, Japan will steadily address global health issues, including HIV/AIDS. He further stated that Japan would like to lead discussions to develop and strengthen the global health system in a more sustainable manner. He also stated that it would be appreciated if the experts could support Japan’s continued efforts towards achieving the overarching goal of "Human Security," including the achievement of universal health coverage (UHC).
