Japan-United States of America Relations

On Saturday, January 28, commencing at 11:05 p.m. for approximately 42 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, held a telephone talk with the Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America. The overview is as follows. 

  1. Prime Minister Abe congratulated President Trump on his inauguration and the launch of his administration, and he stated that the vigorous actions President Trump has taken since immediately after his inauguration have created a powerful impression of the opening of  the President Trump era. In response, President Trump thanked Prime Minister Abe for his congratulations. 
  2. Additionally, Prime Minister Abe stated that he expects the United States will become even a greater country under President Trump's leadership, and Japan intends to fulfill its role as a credible ally. The two leaders confirmed the importance of the Japan-U.S. Alliance in economic and  security challenges, and shared the view that the Japan-U.S. economic relation is important.  
  3. The two leaders agreed that Prime Minister Abe will visit the United States on February 10 to hold a Japan-U.S. Summit Meeting.
