Press Secretary Hatsuhisa Takashima: Good afternoon. Today I have one announcement I would like to make.

In conjunction with the announcement by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan of a unilateral cease-fire along the Line of Control that divides Kashmir, the Government of Japan today issued a statement by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in which he says:

Japan welcomes the statement made by Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali of Pakistan on 24 November announcing the observance of a complete cease-fire along the Line of Control after Ramadan as well as a set of proposals to improve relations between India and Pakistan. The Government of Japan also welcomes the positive response by the Government of India to this announcement.

The Government of Japan hopes that these efforts will further promote improvement in India-Pakistan relations.
