  1. Visit by Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi to Israel and the Palestinian Autonomous Areas

Assistant Press Secretary Daisuke Matsunaga: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I have one announcement to make today.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi will visit Israel and the Palestinian Autonomous Areas from 7-10 June.

Foreign Minister Kawaguchi will have talks with the leadership of both sides to urge them to realize a ceasefire and to show Japan's stance toward a ceasefire and the resumption of peace negotiations.

This will be the first visit by a Japanese Foreign Minister to Israel and the Palestinian Autonomous Areas since the visit by the then Minister for Foreign Affairs Masahiko Koumura in January 1999.

That is the only announcement that I wanted to make and I would be delighted to answer any questions that you might have.

If there are no questions, well, I hope you enjoy the rest of the day. As always, our division is willing to assist you in your enquiries, so please feel free to call us or stop by our division.

    Thank you very much.
