- H.E. Mrs. Irina Bokova, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), will visit Japan from June 9 (Wed) to 12 (Sat) as a Guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- During her stay, Director-General Bokova will pay a courtesy call on Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, Prime Minister of Japan. She is also scheduled to meet Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs and other Japanese high-ranked government officials. In addition, she will give a keynote speech at the symposium entitled “Climate Change and Education: The Role of UNESCO in the 2010s” to be held in United Nations University, as well as visit World Heritage sites and exchange views with related parties in Nara.
- It is expected that Director-General Bokova’s visit to Japan will further deepen the cooperative relationship between Japan and UNESCO.
- This is Director-General Bokova’s first visit to Japan since assuming office.
