Visit to Japan by H.E. Mrs. Irina Bokova, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

  1. H.E. Mrs. Irina Bokova, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), will visit Japan from June 9 (Wed) to 12 (Sat) as a Guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  2. During her stay, Director-General Bokova will pay a courtesy call on Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, Prime Minister of Japan. She is also scheduled to meet Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs and other Japanese high-ranked government officials. In addition, she will give a keynote speech at the symposium entitled “Climate Change and Education: The Role of UNESCO in the 2010s” to be held in United Nations University, as well as visit World Heritage sites and exchange views with related parties in Nara.

  3. It is expected that Director-General Bokova’s visit to Japan will further deepen the cooperative relationship between Japan and UNESCO.

  4. This is Director-General Bokova’s first visit to Japan since assuming office.
