Forum for the Promotion of Public and Private Cooperation in the Mekong Region

- Government of Japan will host “Forum for the Promotion of Public-Private Cooperation in the Mekong Region” on December 14th, 2010. In this forum, Mr. Hisashi Tokunaga, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Japanese government officials, private sector, international organizations will participate from the Japanese side and government officials, businessman and experts will participate from the Mekong region countries.
- Based on the agreement in the First Mekong -Japan Summit held last November to launch a new Forum for the Promotion of Public and Private Cooperation in the Mekong region, Government of Japan has taken initiative to host the Forum. In the forum, participants will discuss issues of common interest for Japan’s public and private sector, including development of hard and soft infrastructure, logistics networks and industrial development, in order to enhance sharing of knowledge and information on Mekong region as well as promote further concrete measures on the Mekong region countries.
- The Government of Japan has already held 10 working group meeting for the Forum. In this Forum, taking note of previous discussions in the working groups, we will introduce Japan’s efforts to promote public and private cooperation and concretely discuss projects related to public and private cooperation with government officials, young businessman and experts from the Mekong region countries. The results of this Forum will be reported to next year’s Mekong-Japan Foreign Ministers Meeting as well as Mekong-Japan Summit.
