Mr. Tetsuro Fukuyama, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, to Attend the London Conference on Afghanistan, the London Meeting on Yemen, and the Sixteenth Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council

- Mr. Tetsuro Fukuyama, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, will attend the London Meeting on Yemen on January 27 (Wed) and the London Conference on Afghanistan on 28 (Thu). After these meetings, he will visit Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will attend the Sixteenth Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council to be held from January 28 (Thu) to 30 (Sat).
- The London Conference on Afghanistan is the first large-scale international conference after the re-election of H.E. Mr. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Japan, as a leading country of efforts by the international community for reconstruction of Afghanistan, will positively participate in discussions at the conference.
- The Meeting on Yemen will discuss the challenges that Yemen is facing, including Yemen's growing instability, as well as initiatives by the international community.
- At the AU Executive Council, State Secretary Fukuyama will announce a concrete approach regarding Japanese Foreign Policy towards Africa. He will also hold discussions with African countries’ delegations in order to strengthen cooperation with regard to issues such as follow-up to the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) and climate change.
