The APEC Japan 2010 Symposium

- The APEC Japan 2010 Symposium will be held on December 9 (Wed) and 10
(Thu) at the Hotel Nikko Tokyo.
- Japan will be chair of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
in 2010, and will hold various APEC Ministerial Meetings and other related
meetings all over the nation throughout the year. In November 2010, Japan
is scheduled to hold an APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and Ministerial
Meeting in Yokohama.
- The purpose of the APEC 2010 Japan Symposium is to hold discussions among key figures in industry, government, and academia on the main themes of the APEC Japan 2010 Meetings before they are held. In particular, scholars, business leaders , and government officials from the Asia-Pacific region will gather and discuss the Bogor Goals* and the future of APEC, the liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment, as well as regional economic integration including the concept of a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) and strategies for the prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.
(Note) The Bogor Goals
These goals are for the achievement of free and open trade and investment by the year 2010 for APEC industrialized economies and by the year 2020 for developing economies. (Adopted at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting held in Bogor, Indonesia in November 1994).
