Invitation to Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Educator
March 2, 2007
- Japan will invite Dr. Owen Greene, an expert in the fields of disarmament and non-proliferation, familiar with Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) issues, from March 11 (Sun) to 16 (Fri), as part of promoting the education on disarmament and non-proliferation that is encouraged by "the United Nations study on disarmament and non-proliferation education" adopted in the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in August 2002.
- Dr. Greene will deliver a public lecture on the subject "SALW, armed violence and conflict: priorities for international action" in UN House (UN University) on March 14 (Wed).
- Dr. Kathleen Sullivan in 2002, Dr. Natalie Goldring in 2003, Dr. William Potter in 2004, and Dr. J. P. Zanders last year, were invited for this purpose. It is expected that intellectuals and citizens in Japan will further deepen their understanding on issues of disarmament and non-proliferation through this lecture session.
