International Symposium on Human Security

- On December 15 (Sat), "International Symposium on Human Security", organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be held at the Takanawa Prince Hotel.
- The Symposium will be attended by leaders and experts in various fields including the co-chairs of the Commission on Human Security, Mrs. Sadako Ogata and Professor Amartya Sen. Mr. Junichiro Koizumi, Prime Minister, and Ms. Makiko Tanaka, Minister for Foreign Affairs, will also attend and make opening remarks.
- The theme for this Symposium will be "Human Security and Terrorism - Diversifying Threats under Globalization". Taking into account the situation following the terrorist attacks in the United States, the participants will discuss the following issues in order to deal with the threats which has become diversified by globalization from the viewpoint of human security: (1) Afghanistan and the Threats to Human Security, (2) Fundamental Causes of Human Insecurity, (3) What Should the International Community do to Promote Human Security? The Symposium will also examine how Japan should engage in the matter from the viewpoint of human security.
