Japan-U.S. Commission on Arms Control, Disarmament, Nonproliferation and Verification

- The Japan-U.S. Commission on Arms Control, Disarmament, Nonproliferation and Verification will be held on March 8 (Wed) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo. Both sides have been coordinating to agree at the meeting upon the establishment of a commission to advance the bilateral cooperation in these fields.
- The meeting will be attended on the Japanese side by a delegation led by Ambassador Norio Hattori, Director-General for Arms Control and Scientific Affairs, and on the U.S. side by a delegation led by Ambassador John Holum, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President and Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security.
- Discussions at this meeting will cover broad-range issues in the fields concerned, focusing especially on the verification system under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and on the NPT Review Conference to be held in April.
