Vice-Ministerial Subcommittee Meeting for Japan-Russia Joint Committee on Conclusion of Peace Treaty

June 8, 1998

1. A Vice-Ministerial Subcommittee Meeting for the Japan-Russia Joint Committee on the Conclusion of a Peace Treaty will be held on June 22 (Mon.) in Tokyo.

2. This meeting will be attended on the Japanese side by Mr. Minoru Tanba, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and others; and on Russian side by Mr. Grigorii Borisovich Karasin, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, and others.

3. In the Japan-Russia Summit Talks in Kawana, the two leaders declared that the Krasnoyarsk accord would be practically advanced by expediting the necessary procedures. In light of this declaration, the forthcoming meeting will be held in order to actively proceed with the negotiations with Russia, following the meeting held on May 6.
