Statement by Foreign Minister Yohei Kono on Conclusion of the Bosnia Peace Agreement
14 December 1995
- Japan heartily welcomes the signing of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina by the presidents of the parties to the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia on December 14 in Paris.
- The signing of the Agreement means that the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia which resulted in great human and material losses are now coming to an entire termination after four years since their outbreak. It is now needful for the parties to the conflicts to sincerely abide by this Agreement for establishing lasting peace and it is necessary for the international community to positively assist the implementation of the Agreement.
- As I attended the Peace Implementation Conference held in London on December 8 and 9 and stated that Japan would contribute to such international assistance, Japan is determined to extend further cooperation for peace in the former Yugoslavia in the future also.
