Foreign Minister's Commendations for FY1999

- The Foreign Minister's Commendations for FY1999 were awarded on July 8 (Thu.) at the Foreign Ministry (Iikura House) to those who had rendered especially distinguished services in promoting friendly relations with foreign countries and international cooperation. The commendation ceremony was followed by a reception in celebration of the occasion.
- This year, 34 individuals including Mr. Yukimitsu Kano, President of Kodokan Judo Institute, and 16 organizations received commendations. Commemorative silver cups were also awarded to the individuals.
- With the changing international environment, Japan's higher international status, and the deeper international interdependence of recent years, many people are actively engaged in a variety of international fields. Their activities play an extremely large role in promoting friendly relations between Japan and other countries, thus contributing to the peace and prosperity of Japan and the world. The purpose of the commendations is to pay tribute to the meritorious services of such individuals and groups and, at the same time to appeal for further public understanding and support for these activities.
