Japan SDGs Award

In order to promote nation-wide efforts towards achieving the SDGs, the SDGs Promotion Headquarters established “the Japan SDGs Award” at the 3rd SDGs Promotion Headquarters meeting held in June 2017. Since then, the SDGs have become mainstream in Japan by acceleration of efforts made by local authorities, private companies and civil groups. This has raised public awareness of the SDGs in Japan to approximately 90%.
In light of this situation, the SDGs Implementation Guiding Principles revised in December 2023 states that, “Considering that the Japan SDGs Award has fulfilled its policy significance since its inception, the future of the award will be reviewed later.” In order to follow-up the above statement, after a careful review in the government, we have decided to terminate "the Japan SDGs Award".
Hereafter, we will continue to promote nation-wide efforts towards achieving the SDGs through various sector-specific and issue-specific award programs implemented by respective ministries and agencies.
