Centered on the Port of Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture has developed as a pioneer of Japan's internationalization and modernization as a highly cosmopolitan area. Furthermore, in Kobe New Eastern City Center, which symbolizes the city's recovery from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake of 1995, international organizations that are active in a variety of fields such as disaster prevention, environmental issues, healthy welfare and humanitarian issues, etc., are gathering one after another.
By making use of this concentration of resources, Kobe promotes cooperation with overseas municipalities and realizes participation and cooperation with NGOs and companies that are involved in international exchange cooperation. At the same time, the city is proceeding with its efforts to solve common problems that affect humanity as a whole, beginning with the issue of global environmental concerns.
