Hokkaido is blessed by magnificent nature and by an abundance of fresh farm and marine products and its food production and tourist industries have developed over and above Japan's other prefectures.

In recent years, the branding of food and tourism has accelerated through: 1) technological developments made possible by industry-academia-government cooperation; and 2) the manufacturing of high value-added products. Likewise, Hokkaido's IT and biotechnology industries have developed against a background of excellent technology and human resources. Moreover, the prefecture places emphasis on inviting enterprises to its area, and has been succeeding in attracting automotive-related and other industries due to the availability of high-quality manpower and an excellent location.
