The First Meeting of Japan-Malaysia Economic Partnership (JMEP)
The Meeting of Japan-Malaysia Economic Partnership (JMEP) was held in Tokyo on 8th and 9th May 2003. The Japanese side was headed by Mr. Ichiro Fujisaki, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs. The Malaysian side was headed by H.E. Datoユ Ahmad Fuzi Hj Abdul Razak, Secretary-General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both sides agreed to set up the Working Group on Japan-Malaysia Economic Partnership.
The first Working Group Meeting was well attended by representatives from various ministries and agencies concerned of both sides. Both sides shared the view that the discussions in the WG should be based on mutual benefits. The Meeting made good exchanges of views on broad-ranged areas covering not only liberalization of trade and investment, but also promotion and facilitation of trade and investment, and co-operation in various fields. The two sides reaffirmed their efforts towards continuing constructive discussions.
The Meeting was an initial step in the process of consultations towards realizing the JMEP.
The second meeting will be held in Malaysia. The date of the meeting will be decided later.
