北太平洋捕鯨の規制に関する日本国とソヴィエト社会主義共和国連邦との間の協定

AGREEMENT BETWEEN JAPAN AND THE UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS ON THE REGULATION OF NORTH PACIFIC WHALING

　千九百四十六年十二月二日ワシントンで署名された国際捕鯨取締条約（以下「条約」という。）の締約政府である日本国及びソブィエト社会主義共和国連邦の政府は、

　The Governments of Japan and of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, being Parties to the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling, signed at Washington on December 2, 1946 (hereafter referred to as "the Convention"),

　次のとおり協定した。

　Have agreed upon the following:

第一条
(a)　この協定の適用上、

Article 1
(a) For the purpose of this Agreement:

(i)　千九百七十七年にかける母船１るひげ鯨の捕獲のための解禁期は、四月十五日から十月十五日までの期のとする。

(i) The open season in 1977 for pelagic baleen whaling operations shall be the period from April 15 to October 15 both inclusive; and

(ii)　千九百七十七年にかける母船によるまつこう鯨の捕獲のための解禁期は、三月十五日から十一月十五日までの期間とする。

(ii) The open season in 1977 for pelagic sperm whaling operations shall be the period from March 15 to November 15 both inclusive.

(b)　自己の管轄下で作業する鯨体処理場を有する署名政府は、他の署名政府に対し、当該鯨体処理場の解禁期をできる限り速やかに通告する。

(b) The Signatory Government having a land station or stations operating under its jurisdiction shall as soon as possib1e notify the other Signatory Government of the season or seasons for such station or stations.

第二条
　条約に基づき千九百七十七年について認められた北太平洋及びその附属水域におけるひげ鯨及びまつこう鯨の総捕獲頭数は、次のとおり署名政府の国の間に配分する。

Article 2
　The total catch of baleen and sperm whales suthorized under the Convention to be taken in the North Pacific Ocean and dependent waters in 1977 shall be allocated between the countries of the Signatory Governments in the fllowing manner:

(i)　にたり鯨

第三条
　この一定は、前交に掲げる府によつて署名された日に効力を生ずる。

Article 3
　The present Agreement shall enter into force on the day upon which it is signed by the Governments referred to in the preamble.

第四条
　この協定は、千九百七十七年十二月三十一日まで実施する。

Article 4
　The present Agreement shall be operative until December 31, 1977.

　千九百七十六年九月二十八日に東京で、英語により本書二通を作成した。
