EXCHANGE OF NOTES BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN AND THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA CONSTITUTING AN AGREEMENT CONCERNING RECIPROCAL WAIVING OF VISA FEES
日本国大使からカナダ外務大臣にあてた書簡
June 13, 1955.
書簡をもつて啓上いたします。本使は、本国政府の訓令に基き、日本国政府が次の条件による査証料の相互免除につきカナダ政府と協定する用意があることを閣下に通報する光栄を有します。
Sir, I have the honour to inform you, Sir, under instructions from my Government, that the Government of Japan is prepared to enter into an agreement with the Government of Canada respecting the waiving on a reciprocal basis of visa fees in accordance with the following terms:
(1) 有効な日本国旅券を所持し、カナダの関係法令に基いて同国に十二箇月をこえない期間一時入国することを希望する日本国民(就職又は永住を目的としない渡航者)は、査証の発給の日から十二箇月の期間カナダに数次入国するために有効な査証を、日本国に駐在するカナダの権限のある外交当局又は領事当局から無料で与えられるものとする。
(1) Japanese nationals who are seeking temporary entry to Canada for a period not exceeding twelve months (visitors not seeking employment nor Permanent residence) under relevant Canadian laws and regulations and who are in possession of valid Japanese passports will receive from the competent Canadian diplomatic or consular authorities in Japan, visas, free of charge, valid for an unlimited number of entries into Canada during a period of twelve months from the date of issue of such visas.
(2) 有効なカナダ旅券を所持し、日本国の関係法令に基いて同国に十二箇月をこえない期間一時入国することを希望するカナダ市民(就職又は永住を目的としない渡航者)は、査証の発給の日から十二箇月の期間日本国に数次入国するために有効な査証を、カナダに駐在する日本国の権限のある外交当局又は領事当局から無料で与えられるものとする。
(2) Canadian citizens who are seeking temporary entry to Japan for a period not exceeding twelve months (visitors not seeking employment nor Permanent residence) under relevant Japanese laws and regulations and who are in possession of valid Canadian passports will receive from the competent Japanese diplomatic or consular authorities in Canada, visas, free of charge, valid for an unlimited number of entries into Japan during a period of twelve months from the date of issue of such visas.
カナダ政府がこの提案を受諾する用意を有されるときは、日本国政府は、この書簡及び同一の内容の閣下の返簡を両政府間の取極とみなすものとすることを提案する光栄を有します。この取極は、千九百五十五年七月一日に効力を生ずるものとし、いずれか一方の政府が終了の通告を受領した日から三十日を経過するまで効力を存続するものとします。
If the Government of Canada is prepared to accept this proposal, the Government of Japan has the honour to suggest that the present Note and your reply in similar terms shall be regarded as an agreement between our two Government . The agreement shall take effect on July 1, 1955, and shall continue in full force until thirty days from the date of receipt of a notification of its termination by either Government.

書簡をもつて啓上いたします。本大臣は、カナダ政府が次の条件による査証料の相互免除につき日本国政府と協定する用意があることを閣下に通報する光栄を有します。
Excellency, I have the honour to inform Your Excellency that the Government of Canada is prepared to enter into an agreement with the Government of Japan respecting the waiving on a reciprocal basis of visa fees in accordance with the following terms:
(1) 有効なカナダ旅券を所持し、日本国の関係法令に基いて同国に十二箇月をこえない期間一時入国することを希望するカナダ市民(就職又は永住を目的としない渡航者)は、査証の発給の日から十二箇月の期間日本国に数次入国するために有効な査証を、カナダに駐在する日本国の権限のある外交当局又は領事当局から無料で与えられるものとする。

カナダ政府は、前記の提案を受諾し、閣下の書簡及びこの返簡を両政府間の取極とみなすものとすることについて日本国政府に同意いたします。この取極は、千九百五十五年七月一日に効力を生ずるものとし、いずれか一方の政府が終了の通告を受領した日から三十日を経過するまで効力を存続するものとします。
The Government of Canada accepts this proposal, and agrees with the Government of Japan that your Note and this reply shall be regarded as an agreement between our two Governments.
