PROTOCOL EXTENDING THE AGREEMENT
BETWEEN
THE GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN
AND
THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
ON COOPERATION IN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

    日本国政府及びアメリカ合衆国政府は、
    千九百八十八年六月二十日にトロントで署名され、千九百九十三年六月十六日にワシントンで作成された議定書、千九百九十八年六月十六日にワシントンで作成された議定書、千九百九十九年三月十九日にワシントンで作成された議定書及び千九百九十九年五月十九日にワシントンで作成された議定書により延長され、千九百九十九年七月十六日にワシントンで作成された議定書により延長及び改正され、並びに二千四年七月十九日にワシントンで作成された議定書により延長された科学技術における研究開発のための協力に関する日本国政府とアメリカ合衆国政府との間の協定（以下「協定」という。）の有効期間が二千十四年七月二十日に終了することを認識し、
  　協定第九条２の規定に従って行動して、
    次のとおり協定した。
  　　　　第一条
    協定は、二千十四年七月二十日より十年間延長する。
          第二条
    この議定書は、二千十四年七月二十日に効力を生ずる。

The Government of Japan and the Government of the United States of America;

 Recognizing that the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the United States of America on Cooperation in Research and Development in Science and Technology, signed at Toronto on June 20, 1988, extended 
by the Protocols done at Washington on June 16, 1993, on June 16, 1998, on March 19, 1999 and on May 19, 1999, extended and amended by the Protocol done at Washington on July 16, 1999, and extended by the Protocol done at Washington on July 19, 2004 (hereinafter referred to as “the Agreement”) will terminate on July 20, 2014; and,

 Acting pursuant to paragraph 2 of Article IX of the Agreement;

 Have agreed as follows:

Article I

 The Agreement will be extended for ten years, effective from July 20, 2014.

Article II

 This Protocol will enter into force on July 20, 2014.
