  　書簡をもって啓上いたします。本長官は、千九百九十七年三月十四日付けの交換公文によって行われたアメリカ合衆国航空宇宙局及びアメリカ合衆国海洋大気局と日本国宇宙開発事業団との間の環境観測技術衛星（ＡＤＥＯＳ－Ⅱ）計画に係る協力に関するアメリカ合衆国政府と日本国政府との間の取極（以下「取極」
  という。)に言及する光栄を有します。

Excellency:

	I have the honor to refer to the agreement between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of Japan concerning the cooperation among the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the United States of America, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the United States of America, and the National Space Development Agency of Japan on the Advanced Earth Observation Satellite-II (ADEOS-II) Program, which was effected by the Exchange of Notes dated March 14, 1997 (hereinafter referred to as “the Agreement”). 


							

						

						

					

					
				
			
		
			
			
				
				

				
				
				
					

						

							

								
  　本長官は、更に、アメリカ合衆国政府に代わって、両政府の代表者の間で最近到達した了解に従って、取極を二千三年三月十四日から八年間延長することを提案する光栄を有します。


							

						

						

							

								
	I have the further honor to propose on behalf of the Government of the United States of America, in accordance with the understanding reached recently between the representatives of the two Governments, that the Agreement shall be extended for a period of eight years from March 14, 2003.
