    書簡をもって啓上いたします。本大臣は、千九百九十六年十一月五日に東京で署名され、二千二年五月三十日付けの交換公文によって延長された科学技術における協力に関するオランダ王国政府と日本国政府との間の協定（以下「協定」という。)に言及する光栄を有します。本大臣は、更に、両政府の代表者の間で最近到達した次の了解をオランダ王国政府に代わって確認する光栄を有します。

					The Hague, May 27, 2003

Excellency,

	I have the honour to refer to the Agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Government of Japan on Co-operation in Science and Technology, signed at Tokyo on November 5, 1996, and extended by the notes exchanged on May 30, 2002 (hereinafter referred to as “the Agreement”).  I have further the honour to confirm, on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the following understanding reached recently between the representatives of the two Governments:



							

						

						

					

					
				
			
		
			
			
				
				

				
				
				
					

						

							

								
  　協定は、二千三年六月三日から延長され、いずれか一方の政府が他方の政府に対し協定を終了させる意思を少なくとも六箇月の事前の予告をもって書面により通告することによって終了させない限り無期限に効力を存続する。


							

						

						

							

								
	The Agreement shall be extended from June 3, 2003 and remain in force indefinitely, unless terminated by either Government by giving to the other Government at least six months’ written advance notice of its intention to terminate the Agreement.



							

						

						

					

					
				
			
		
			
			
				
				

				
				
				
					

						

							

								
  　本大臣は、更に、この書簡及び前記の了解を日本国政府に代わって確認される閣下の返簡が両政府間の合意を構成するものとみなし、その合意が閣下の返簡の日付の日に効力を生ずるものとすることを提案する光栄を有します。


							

						

						

							

								
	I have further the honour to propose that this Note and Your Excellency’s Note in reply confirming, on behalf of the Government of Japan, the foregoing understanding shall be regarded as constituting an agreement between the two Governments, which shall enter into force on the date of Your Excellency’s Note in reply.
