PROTOCOL EXTENDING THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN
THE GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN
AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
ON COOPERATION IN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
IN ENERGY AND RELATED FIELDS

    日本国政府及びアメリカ合衆国政府は、

	The Government of Japan and the Government of the United States of America;

    千九百七十九年五月二日にワシントンで署名され、千九百八十九年四月二十八日及び千九百八十九年十月三十一日に延長され、千九百九十年二月一日に改正され、並びに千九百九十五年一月十三日に延長されたエネルギー及びこれに関連する分野における研究開発のための協力に関する日本国政府とアメリカ合衆国政府との間の協定（以下「協定」という。）の有効期間が二千年二月一日に終了することを認識し、

	Recognizing that the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the United States of America on Cooperation in Research and Development in Energy and Related Fields, signed at Washington on May 2, 1979, as extended on April 28, 1989 and October 31, 1989, amended
on February 1, 1990, and extended on January 13, 1995, (hereinafter referred to as "the Agreement") will terminate on February 1, 2000;

    協定第十一条２の規定に従って行動して、

	Acting pursuant to paragraph 2 of Article XI of the Agreement;

    次のとおり協定した。

	Have agreed as follows:

第一条

Article I

    協定は、二千年二月一日より三箇月間延長する。

	The Agreement will be extended for three months, effective from February 1, 2000.

第二条

Article II

    この議定書は、二千年二月一日に効力を生ずる。

	This Protocol will enter into force on February 1, 2000.

    二千年一月二十八日にワシントンで、ひとしく正文である日本語及び英語により本書二通を作成した。

	DONE at Washington, this twenty-eighth day of January, 2000, in duplicate, in the Japanese and English languages, each text being equally authentic.
