Common Agenda Open Forum (March 12)

Common Agenda Open Forum started on March 12(Thu) in Tokyo(at Takanawa Prince Hotel). The Forum aims to discuss the future perspective of the Japan-U.S. Common Agenda which addresses global challenges such as population, HIV/AIDs as well as environment. Despite rainy weather, more than 230 showed up which represented strong enthusiasm on Japan-U.S. cooperation on global issues facing us participated in this forum.

On March 12, Mr. Masahiko Koumura, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Mr. Thomas S. Foley, U.S. Ambassador to Japan gave opening remarks. Mr. Jimmy Carter, Former President of the United States; Mr. Yonei Kono, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister; Gaishi Hiraiwa, Honorary Chairman of Keidanren(also Chairman, Common Agenda Roundtable) provided keynote addresses. In the afternoon, session on "Partnership between Public and Private Sectors under the Common Agenda" as well as working group sessions concerning health and conservation was held. These sessions had candid discussions based on expertise and experiences of each speaker.
