Sample IDs Turn Visitors into "Gold Medal Winners" (February 20)

A showroom for a computer maker near Central Square--where the award ceremonies are held--in downtown Nagano is issuing free Olympic photo ID cards to anyone who wants one.

A photograph is taken with a digital camera and fed into a computer, which then prints out a sample ID with any name and title one likes. The cards are inserted into plastic folders that can be worn around the neck--just like the accreditation cards worn by athletes and Olympic officials. The cards take just 10 minutes to create and can turn you into an instant "gold medal winner."

About 800 people have been visiting the showroom every day to get their cards made. They've proven to be so popular that the wait can be as long as three hours! (Shinano Mainichi Shimbun)
