Fashionable, Recyclable Staff Uniforms

All uniforms for the 26,000 Olympic officials and volunteers are made of a recyclable material. The fabric, buttons, and fasteners will all be made of nylon, which can be melted down and made into new products. Recycling one uniform is estimated to save approximately 10 liters (2.6 gallons) of petroleum.

There are three types of uniforms, all featuring fashionably subdued colors and designs. This makes staff members easy to spot among colorfully clad athletes and spectators. Sewn into the inside of the uniform tops is a message from International Olympic Committee President Juan Antonio Samaranch urging wearers to take the lead in environmental conservation activities.
