Remarks by the Chief Cabinet Secretary Mikio Aoki

2000/1/5 10:50

Press Conference at the Prime Minister's Official Residence

1. Concerning the Y2K computer problem, to date no large problems have arisen in such sectors
as social infrastructure and we have been able to pass without serious incident the
year-end/new year period which was watched carefully. This is a result of measures for the Y2K
issue by both the private and public sectors and I would like to express my sincere respect for
the efforts of all those concerned.

2. It is still necessary to continue to monitor these issues, but as of noon today, the Y2K
Computer Problem Center of the Prime Minister's Official Residence will be closed. From
hereafter as long as there continues to be no change in the situation, operations will be dealt
with by the relevant departments of the Cabinet Secretariat and government ministries and
agencies.
