


Y2K Status in Japan

Y2K Computer Problem Center of the Prime Minister's Official Residence
1. As of 10:00, 5 January 2000, no serious problems related to the Y2K issue had occurred.
2. Concerning the five critical sectors of finance, energy, telecommunications, transportation
and medical care, there were two new reports since 20:00, 4 January 2000 from related
government ministries and agencies to the Y2K Computer Problem Center of the Prime Minister's
Official Residence. This brought the total of incidents reported since 1 January 2000 to 47.
Up to the present, of regional reports concerning incidents in the
above-mentioned energy sector, one similar incident has been reported in a different way.
3. Of these 47 incidents, a total of 27 can be attributed to Y2K. Of the new reports, two were
judged to have been related to Y2K and they are summarized below.
