Establishment of the Y2K Center at the Official Residence of Prime Minister Briefing from the Chief Cabinet Secretary

As of 18:00 31 December, the Liaison Office at the Prime Minister's Official Residence was reorganized as the Y2K Computer Problem Center.
There are now only six hours remaining until midnight, 1 January 2000.
In order to ensure that all goes well we have undertaken on three occasions, training exercises related to information management as part of our crisis management structure for Y2K issues, in cooperation between the pubic and private sectors
Needless to say, what is of the most importance is that as quickly as possible we gather information and keep the people informed as to what is happening. Furthermore, in the unlikely event something should occur, we must ensure that it does not have an adverse effect on the activities of the people.
I am firmly convinced that the results of the preparatory work performed by related persons will leave no doubt that swift and comprehensive responses can be made, and I ask for your continued vigilance.
