JAPAN-THE LEAGUE OF ARAB STATES
JOINT PRESS STATEMENT

H.E. Mr. Seiji Maehara, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H. E. Mr. Amre Moussa, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, held a bilateral meeting on December 12, 2010, during their visit to Tunisia to attend the 2nd meeting of the Japan-Arab Economic Forum as organizers, and issued the following statement on enhancing cooperation and deepening friendship between Japan and the Arab countries at all levels.
- Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the continued progress of the Japan-Arab relations in all aspects, especially the recent development of the economic relations between Japan and the Arab countries, which is evident in the successful convening of the Japan-Arab Economic Forum and reiterated their common determination to further strengthen their cordial ties through intensifying exchanges and expanding cooperation at all levels.
- Reaffirming mutual respect for their civilizations with respective histories dating back to ancient times and distinct characteristics, both sides recognized that mutual understanding and collaboration in the area of culture should be further deepened in this rapidly globalizing world. Both sides decided that Japan and the League of Arab States will hold a meeting of Japanese and Arab intellectuals to discuss cultural cooperation and exchange between Japan and the Arab countries. The Government of Japan and the Secretariat of the League of Arab States will coordinate on how to hold such a meeting as early as in 2011.
