Yumoto High School (Iwaki City, Fukushima) and Tajwar Saltana Girls High School (Kabul, Afghanistan)

Theme:

Afghanistan and Japan: Connected through Children
- A joint virtual classroom for Afghan and Fukushima high schools

Outline:

High school students of Fukushima and Afghanistan, who established a close tie after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami through the "Tegami (Letter) Project" by Japan Committee for UNICEF last year, participate in a joint class over a video link. Tajwar Saltana Girls High School building was rehabilitated by UNICEF with the support of the Government of Japan. Yumoto High School was affected by the March 2011 disaster and students are still studying in a temporary school building. The students in both schools exchange their thoughts about challenges they are facing during reconstruction period, role of schools and education for reconstruction, and their wishes for the future. Moreover, students present their wishes and dreams for the reconstruction and the future on paper slips of Tanabata (Star festival).
