Congratulatory Message from Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to President Hamid Karzai of the Transitional Administration of Afghanistan

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi sent a congratulatory message of the following content to President Hamid Karzai of the Transitional Administration of Afghanistan on Thursday, November 4 in response to the result released by the Joint Electoral Management Body in Afghanistan of the presidential election held in the country, announcing President Karzai's election as the new president on Wednesday, November 3.

1. Prime Minister Koizumi expressed his heartfelt congratulation on behalf of the Government and the people of Japan.
2. Prime Minister Koizumi has high expectations for President Karzai, who obtained the trust and expectation of the people, to demonstrate further his leadership in the nation-building efforts in Afghanistan. As such, Prime Minister confirmed that Japan will continue its assistance for these efforts being implemented by President Karzai.
