- With regard to the bombings in Madrid, Spain, on the morning of March 11, 2004 (Thursday, local time), Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi sent a message to President of the Government of Spain Jose Maria Aznar Lopez through the Embassy of Japan in Spain. In the message, Prime Minister Koizumi expressed a strong condemnation against the acts of terrorism and his sincere condolences on and sympathy for the victims of the bombings.
- Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi likewise sent the following message to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain Ana Palacio Vallelersundi.
"I was greatly shocked by the bombings in Madrid which caused many victims. I resolutely condemn such despicable and inexcusable acts of terrorism and reaffirm that nothing can justify the terrorism.
I wish to express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the casualties and my heartfelt sympathy to those who were injured."
