Negotiations to Start on Japan-Vietnam Economic Partnership Agreement

- On October 19 (Thu), Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who is now visiting Japan, and Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, held a Japan-Vietnam summit meeting and signed a Japan-Vietnam joint statement.
- The joint statement says that the two leaders have decided to start negotiations on a Japan-Vietnam Economic Partnership Agreement on the basis of the results of the past meetings of the Joint Study Group. The first round will be held in January 2007.
