Conversation between Prime Minister Kan and Premier Wen Jiabao (Overview)

Mr. Naoto Kan, Prime Minister of Japan, had a conversation with Mr. Wen Jiabao, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China for approximately 10 minutes around 12:00 noon on October 30 (Japan Standard Time) at a leaders' waiting room before the start of the East Asia Summit (EAS) held in Hanoi, Vietnam. The overview of the conversation is as follows:

  1. The two leaders shared the view that it was extremely regrettable that a bilateral summit meeting did not take place on this occasion.
  2. The two leaders reaffirmed their intention to revive exchanges at the private-sector level as agreed during the conversation they had in Brussels.
  3. The two leaders agreed to continue promoting the "Mutually Beneficial Relationship based on Common Strategic Interests."
  4. The two leaders concurred in having an opportunity for in-depth talks in the future.
