On the afternoon of November 27, Mr Kazuya Shimba, the Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a visit from Mr Peter Jennings, the Executive Director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI). They held talks for about half an hour.
Mr Shinba welcomed Mr Jennings' visit to Japan and emphasized the significance of Japan- Australia co-operation in the areas of diplomacy and security/defence with regards to the current changing international environment. He further reiterated Japan's intention to deepen the relations based upon the successful outcome of the fourth Japan-Australia Foreign and Defense Ministerial Consultation (2+2) held in Sydney in September 2012.
In response, Mr Jennings called for strengthening the close communication between the relevant parties of both countries to further deepen Japan- Australia security/defence co-operation and also trilateral (Japan -Australia- US) co-operation.
Mr Shimba and Mr Jennings also exchanged their views on the strategic situation in the Asia-Pacific and on domestic political issues concerning Japan and Australia.
