The emergency grant aid for the electoral process, which covers the purchase of ballot boxes and polling stations equipment, was signed on June 19, 2009. No funds have been spent to date. Following the September 28, 2009, tragic events in Conakry, the capital city, the postponement of the elections initially scheduled for January 2010 to a not yet determined date, led the partners to request UNDP to hold off any equipment purchase using funds from their own allocated resources. With the prospects for new elections bright, in the aftermath of the Ouagadougou Agreement on January 15, 2010, UNDP is in consultation with the Independent National Electoral Commission to launch the purchasing process of ballot boxes. These actions are expected to be finalized in March 2010.
