Mar-09 South Africa Hanwa Co., Ltd opened its Johannesburg office.
Apr-09 Tunisia Sumitomo Corporation signed a contract for supply of TV Broadcasting Equipment with the state-run Télévision Tunisienne.
Apr-09 South Africa Marubeni established a Sub-Sahara Desk in Johannesbourg, responsible for wide-area coordination in Sab-Saharan Africa.
May-09 South Africa Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) established the Johannesburg Branch Office to gather information on South Africa and on other countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Its scope of activities includes handling business inquiries, business talks, exploratory work in developing agencies, and follow-up to activities by local suppliers. 
Jun-09 Algeria JGC Corporation (JGC) and its subsidiary JGC Algeria S.p.A were awarded by Sonatrach, Algeria's state-owned oil and gas company, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services contract for large-sized gas processing facilities with a throughput of 12 mmscmd, gas gathering and product pipelines, as well as supporting installations, in the Gassi Touil field.
Jun-09 Ethiopia Sumitomo Chemical established a net sewing operation in Ethiopia to produce its Olyset Nets, long-lasting insecticidal anti-malaria nets. The new facility is operated by the Ethiopian textiles business, Woinu Curtain Trade P.L.C. (WCT). The facility, based in Kombolcha in north-central Ethiopia created 300 jobs.
Sep-09 Algeria Toray received an order to supply reverse osmosis (RO) membranes for world’s largest RO seawater desalination plant in Algeria.
Sep-09 South Africa Daikin Air Conditioning South Africa (Pty) Ltd., a group company of Daikin Industries, Ltd., received orders for and has delivered a total of 170 water-cooled VRV® air conditioners (number of outdoor units) to Green Point Stadium (Cape Town), and the newly-constructed Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (Port Elizabeth).
Dec-09 South Africa TELEHOUSE EUROPE, KDDI Group's European local subsidiary, opened the data center TELEHOUSE CAPE TOWN in Cape Town, and launched service on December 2, 2009. This is the first data center opened by a Japanese telecommunications carrier in Africa.
Dec-09 Libya Sekisui Chemical set up a plastics production joint venture in Libya to expand its water infrastructure business to North Africa. The new venture, Libya Eslon (Sekisui) was established in Garahboli, in February 2010.
Jan-10 Egypt Tokio Marine Holdings Inc. announced its two takaful units, Nile Family Takaful Co. and Nile General Takaful Co., established in October 2008 in Egypt commenced operations in January 2010.
