(i)Based on a project document elaborated at an ESDA Consultation Conference held in Tokyo in February 2009 with the participation of 15 African sustainable development experts, programme development and planning work is being carried out to elaborate a graduate-level education programme for sustainable development in Africa.
(ii)Three thematic Working Groups, convened by leading African university-based experts, are actively engaged to develop programmes, respectively, on (a) Integrated environmental, economic and social development in rural Africa, (b) Community-based innovation for sustainable urban development in Africa, and (c) Management of mining and mineral resources for sustainable development in Africa.
(iii)The project's Steering Committee, which oversees the progress of work as well as elaborates an overall ESDA framework, met in October 2009 through a TV conference linking Accra and Tokyo to conduct a mid-year review of the project.
(iv) A two-day symposium/workshop was held in Nairobi, Kenya on 1-2 March 2010 to reflect on Year 2 of the project and to plan for Year 3.
