ESDA project
(i) The single most important activity of the ESDA project in FY 2008 is a conference which brings together around 40 African and Japanese university-based experts engaged in research and education on sustainable development.
(ii) The aim is to create an outline for the graduate-level programme on sustainable developmentin Africa and to provide critical guidance for finalizing the project document.
(iii) Tentative programme for FY 2009: Program Development Phase
• Elaboration of the over-all curricular framework for the programme, including its thematic structure
• Establishment of the international structure for programme delivery, including setting up of ICT-backed instructional facility
• Formation of inter-university network for the project, including establishment of collaboration protocol (e.g., academic accreditation, students enrollment, instructional contribution, exchange of instructors and students)
(iv) Tentative programme for FY2010: Program Synthesis Phase
• To pilot-test the ESD instruction programme for the respective thematic area
• To review the results of the pilot test and prepare a final report to be presented on the occasion of a Program Reporting Conference (at the end of Year 3) with the aim to exchange views on the results achieved and discuss the way forward.
