Ghana: Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center(KAIPTC)

The KAIPTC continues to provide training courses on small arms and light weapons reduction in West Africa to member States of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). This training complements the capacity building efforts of the West African inter-governmental organization’s small arms control programme as well as UNDP support to national governments. The three year-long project (2008-2010) is funded solely by the government of Japan’s non-core, non-ODA contribution to UNDP worth about US$ 2,500,000. The KAIPTC has organized numerous training programmes in 2009 for various national commissions on small arms and specialized courses on behalf of key policy makers in the region in relation to small arms control and management, benefiting over 200 individuals.
