Kenya: International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC)
The project “Peace Support Operation (PSO) Training and Institutional Capacity Enhancement at the International Peace Support Training Centre” has recruited a Project Manager, a Project Officer, two Curriculum Development Officers and a Training Coordinator/Facilitator. Achievements of the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) include a validation trip, regarded as a success in light of a series of observations collected and recommendations incorporated in re-designing writing boards undertaken in the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS). UNDP has a MoU with the Eastern African Stand-By Brigade (EASBRIG) to implement a number of activities and achievements so far include completion of a regional training of trainers in civilian capability in Field Training Exercise, training of an annual police point contact, organizing a formed police unit workshop and final planning conference, training of IT civilian staff, and start-up work on a data base development. The project is systematically moving towards achievement of the goal of strengthening regional training and implementing the institutions’ Peace Support Operation.
January to March 2010: A Peace Support Operation Planning curriculum has been developed. A Conflict Analysis and Prevention course targeting personnel working in such missions as the African Union/United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the United Nations Mission in DRC (MONUC) and the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) as well as peace practitioners from the Eastern Africa region, was delivered in March 2010.
